Five Friday Favourites

I feel like these past two weeks have been relaxing but also full on. Last week I went down south with my family for a much needed break, it was great to relax by the beach, explore new towns and just recharge. We were fortunate enough to do an underwater jetty observatory tour which was really interesting and well worth it. We also caught up with some extended family who were also holidaying down there at the same time as us which was fun.

Then this past week I had a podiatrist appointment on Monday as my right ankle (the one I broke a few years ago) was causing me pain and I wondered if it was due to how I am walking and my feet in general. I am so glad I made the appointment as I was told that my joints are extremely hypermobile (which I knew but I didn't realise how severe). Because of this, there is a good chance that my ankle never fully healed when I broke it especially as I had bad ligament damage as well. So I have ordered some orthotics to wear which should help keep my feet and ankles less mobile and help reduce the pain. I was due to have my regular doctors appointment this week but as my doctor is away this week and next week I won't actually have it until the week after, so it will be the longest I have gone without seeing my doctor since the start of last year which is crazy.

Then on Tuesday I went bather shopping (and spent a small fortune on bathers, the joys of being big busted) and followed by going into the city with mum and Jocelyn. The rest of the week has been relatively quiet and tonight I am having a girls night with two of my friends, which I am so looking forward to. Sometimes you just need a night to eat junk food, talk and continue to plan the Hamilton trip.

Next week my medical certificate finishes and I am back to looking for work which means employment agency meetings, job applications and other fun things. I am really feeling a lot of anxiety regarding getting a job and I don't know how much more rejection I can deal with. I know God is in control of this but it's really hard to stay positive and continue to trust in him.

Onto Friday Favourites...

Lego Flower Bouquet - I have many flowers out of many things paper, polymer clay, wire... but never Lego before and I couldn't resist buying these the moment they came out. I really had fun building them and they weren't too hard especially considering the amount of pieces. I love having them out on display and they will never wilt or die.

Lethal Intent by Cara C Putman - I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this book thanks to
NetGalley. The blurb reads:

Caroline Bragg’s life has never been better. She and Brandon Lancaster are taking their relationship to the next level, and she has a new dream job as legal counsel for Praecursoria—a research lab that is making waves with its cutting-edge genetic therapies. The company’s leukemia treatments even promise to save desperately sick kids—kids like eleven-year-old Bethany, a critically ill foster child at Brandon’s foster home.

When Caroline’s enthusiastic boss wants to enroll Bethany in experimental trials prematurely, Caroline objects, putting her at odds with her colleagues. They claim the only goal at Praecursoria is to save lives. But does someone have another agenda?

Brandon faces his own crisis. As laws governing foster homes shift, he’s on the brink of losing the group home he’s worked so hard to build. When Caroline learns he’s a Praecursoria investor, it becomes legally impossible to confide in him. Will the secrets she keeps become a wedge that separates them forever? And can she save Bethany from the very treatments designed to heal her?

I really enjoyed this book and it was the perfect Summer read :) I always find when I read Cara's books I learn so much as she herself is a lawyer so you know that it will be accurate. I really liked Caroline and loved seeing her interact with her friends (whose stories you can read about in Cara's previous novels) and seeing their stories continue. It's so nice to see women supporting each other in their careers and personal lives and having this close bond. Brandon complimented Caroline really well and I loved learning about his past and why he does what he does and how would do anything for his foster kids. The medical theme was really interesting especially as this research is happening right now and it will most likely be the future of cancer treatments. I will say that this book is full of twists and turns and it kept me on my toes. My only complaint is that I wish there was a epilogue so you could see if everything turns out happily ever after, so I'm hoping we will revisit Brandon and Caroline's story in another novel. This is a great novel and one that I couldn't put down, I highly recommend it if you're after a new book to read.

Superstore - this show is finally on Netflix and if you haven't watched it I highly recommend that you do. It follows a group of employees at a big box store (like Walmart) in America and all the antics they get up to. I always laugh so much while watching this but it also covers some really important topics like illegal immigration.

Birkenstock Arizona EVA - so the podiatrist recommended that I buy some more supportive slip on shoes for around the house as my Havaianas aren't the most supportive. So I ended up buying the classic Birkenstocks but in plastic. I really prefer to wear shoes out that have a back strap as I find it supports my ankle better so I didn't want to buy a pair of leather Birkenstocks especially if I wasn't going to them wear out and about (only to the beach and pool). Don't get me wrong these were still expensive but I was able to use a coupon code and save $10 so that helped. I have worn them since they arrived today (postage was super fast which was great) and I can honestly say they offer a lot more support and my ankle isn't hurting as much as usual which is great.

This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay - one of my friends read this book and kept sending photos of funny lines and pages in the book in the group chat I have with her and another friend. I decided to read it and I did not regret it. It's a hilarious but heart warming look into the life of a junior doctor in England and it will make you laugh so hard but also cry. I really enjoyed it and even if you're not into medical dramas I guarantee that you will enjoy this book. His other book Twas the Nighshift Before Christmas is also really good read and the festive stories will make you smile.
