Five Friday Favourites
And just like it's Friday so that means Friday Favourites and a recap of the happenings in my life. I am in the waiting period of my life at the moment I have decided! I am waiting for phone calls about job interviews (and then the follow up rejections that always happen), I wait for phone calls about specialist appointments and I wait to see how this dizziness increases yet again. This past fortnight has been quieter than usual but it has had it's busy moments. I had to take Rikki to the vet on Wednesday as he developed an abscess under his chin so he got an antibiotic shot and we have a follow up in 2 weeks time. So that was stressful for me and him (he does not like the car and insists on howling for the whole 5-10 minute journey) and also expensive but thankfully my parents are paying half. Then today I took my sister to the cat cafe to play with their foster kittens and resident cats which was fun before coming home to catch up with a friend.
I feel like every post I write has some sort of mention of my dizziness which is extremely frustrating as it's been almost 20 months and there is no end in sight! It increased on Saturday which was just what I needed so I have been dealing with headaches, nausea on and off and increased fatigue this past week. I saw my doctor yesterday and I told him about how apart from the initial phone call from the neurologist's office I haven't heard anything. He told me that to be honest he didn't see this neurologist having a solution to the dizziness but we needed to get a second opinion on it from a neurologist and there's no harm in seeing the head of the neurology department at a major hospital. I jokingly said that maybe she could use me as a case study and put her residents onto me to work out what is going on. I then asked what our next steps would be after that and he then said that my doctor would need to research other options (I would be talking in 3rd person as well at this point in time haha) so I looked at him and said well you better get on it. My doctor did say that he would call the neurologists office to see what the hold up is regarding this appointment and actually try to talk to her.
I have applied for a few jobs that seem promising recently and one has just closed today so if you all could pray that I get an interview for this position that would be great. It's a position that I know I could do and enjoy and it's pretty perfect from the hours to the location (right on the trainline). I was saying to mum the other night that whatever job God has set aside for me must be pretty good as I have been waiting so long to get it. I have missed out on so many jobs that I would've been perfect for including two where it came down to me and another person. So please pray that I get an interview for this position.
Onto Friday Favourites...
You Can't Ask That - I love this series by the ABC and find it to be really informative. I just watch the episodes that interest me and I always find I learn so much. There's six seasons and each season has various topics from people who have killed someone, to kids, to people who are dying, to people who have OCD. One of the episodes that I really enjoyed was from the most recent season and was asking people who had family members who were missing and hearing their experiences as it is something that isn't talked about enough. Find an episode that interests you and you might just learn something new.
Barty Coffee - I am not a coffee drinker but for my Dad's birthday I decided to order him this coffee and it smelt so good. It's small batch speciality roasted coffee and so much time and thought has been put into each batch. I actually had the pleasure of interviewing Bart Jawien last year for ReachOut as he decided to hike the The Overland Track to raise funds for ReachOut and get people talking about mens mental health. He then decided to combine his passion for coffee with mental health so all proceeds from the sale of coffee beans goes to ReachOut to help reach his target of $100 000. For me personally I am so open about my struggles with mental illness but I know that for many others especially young men it can be hard to talk about. So it's great to see someone like Bart putting in the time and effort to reduce the stigma and wanting to start the conversation about mental health. I highly recommend ordering some coffee beans and maybe even sharing a cup with a friend and starting the conversation about mental health.
The Emperors New Groove hair tie - Emperors New Groove is such an underrated movie in my books, the characters and hilarious lines always make me laugh. My youngest sister loves the movie as well so when I saw these scrunchies I had to buy it for her. I love how from a distance it looks like a geometric pattern but once you get closer you see good and bad Kronk. Yes I know $15 is expensive for a scrunchie (its really 2 as you get a pink velvet one) but they're good quality and the perfect accessory for fans of the film.
How I go about getting ready to see a specialist (blog post) - I have finally gotten around to writing a post about how I prepare to see a specialist and what I have found that works me. From my medical history that I have typed up ready to go to how I google the specialists before I see them.
Churro Bars - I made these on Wednesday and they were super easy to make and taste really good. I love bars as they are easy to make and transport which is great when I love to share my baked goods with people. I loved how the cinnamon sugar on the bottom caramelised and gave it a crunchy base which was unexpected. Highly recommend making these this weekend if you need a baking fix, also browned butter makes everything better and it's super easy to make so don't let that stop you from making them.
