Maybe being spontaneous pays off

A couple of weeks ago a potential job caught my eye I didn't want to apply for it because I had applied to work there many times to no success (pretty sure it has been 4 times!). I ended up applying to work there because I have been trying to be more spontaneous and this seemed like another opportunity. But I made a deal with myself if at anytime I began feeling stressed about the application I could walk away and that I wasn't to overthink it. I decided that I would try another selection criteria method rather than my usual dot point way, I typed up paragraphs proving that I could do what they asked regarding the question. I finished the application without stressing (much), only walking a way once (to take some deep breaths) and getting through a whole bag of vanilla shake flavoured M&Ms. I then went back to submitting my first assignment for my Diploma (which I passed) like nothing had happened.
These past couple of weeks have been busy I have been named a Youth Ambassador for ReachOut (the volunteer position I applied for here) which means I have been trying to get organised for the workshop this weekend. I have started my next assignment which I am aiming to submit on Friday. All while ignoring the fact that I have submitted this job application.
Today my phone rang (which made me jump) and as soon as the voice on the other end said they were from the place where I had applied my heart rate picked up and I now have an interview on Monday afternoon. Once again I'm not going to overthink it which will for once be easy considering this weekend I have the workshop and in the morning before the interview I am caring for Megan's friend so there will be very little time to overthink it!
The big thing is it was spontaneous to apply for the job and for the volunteer position so maybe being spontaneous pays off :)

If you could pray that this job interview goes well that would be great, I would really like this job and am feeling over the whole job application process so I would like to see an end to it all!

All about Jocelyn

Continuing with the sister interviews today :) Jocelyn is my youngest sister there is almost exactly 4 years between us.
When we were little we had to share room which my parents soon learned that it was a bad idea, we kept waking them up at 5.30 every morning. She is also the neat one in the family and I am the organised but messy one so as soon as we moved house it was separate rooms for us. We still fight but it means we get our own spaces.
She will also demand me to bake her various goods such as Cinnamon Scrolls, brownies and her all time favourite swirly cookies. I swear she has a sixth sense when it comes to my baking because as soon as I bake one of her favourites she will randomly appear!
She gets annoyed when I watch Bones without her and when she is sick she always watches Alice in Wonderland (in any version, of which we have many on DVD).
She has the reputation of being the crazy cat lady among her friends so she has quite the collection of cat themed things. She blames me (for some reason?) but I think that may be because she babies her cat Maddy to no end.

All about Megan

As you may know I have 2 younger sisters, Megan is the middle one, she also has Down Syndrome. There is just under 2 and a half years between us and when she was born apparently I was proud and super exited (I don't remember much from when she born). She's the one that makes the house noisy and filled with joy. She is also always saying the funniest things, to give you an idea of what she's like here are some of the conversations we have had and things she has said:

Megan: What are you doing?
Me Just chilling
Megan: Oh I did not see that coming!

Dad walks into the house after being in the shed (or man cave as we call it) most of the day.
Megan: Dad what are you doing in the house?!
Dad: I don't know *walks out*

Megan's shower solo: "And now I'm getting out of the shower, my mum is so crazy... Oh yeah!!"

Its safe to say that she makes the house a lot more lively! So here are the basics (these are similar questions to what I asked my youngest sister just toned down and done to her level) of Megan :)

Five Friday Favourites

Its time for another round of Friday Favourites (and there is five of them for this week). This week has been rather intense to say the least so I am happy that its over. I finally finished my first assignment for my Diploma and submitted it on Tuesday which is nerve wracking, I have no idea how I did but its all in God's hands :). I also applied for a few jobs so if you could pray that I see some results soon (and land the perfect job!) that would be great. I am in the process of interviewing my sisters for this blog so I am hoping to get those up in the near future, (just need to edit one and get the other all filled out as its only half done!).

iZombie - I know I already mentioned this on my TV shows you need to watch post but this show just keeps getting better! Its such a different show and despite not being a huge fan of the supernatural I look forward to each episode and find myself getting sucked in even more. The characters are so well done and with every episode I find myself loving Liv more. If you need a new show to start do check it out you won't regret it!

How to Catch a Prince by Rachel Hauck - I did a review on this book here and I am still getting over how good it is. Its definitely a chick read but it has so many levels to it and once you get sucked in you will find yourself wishing you could become a royal (well in some areas at least!).

Covergirl Eyelights Mascara - I rarely buy the same mascara twice but I have recently bought my second tube of this. You pick the colour depending on your eye colour and it helps enhance your eye colour. It coats every lash and lasts all day. My youngest sister who never compliments me on my make up actually commented on how good my mascara looked the other day! I use the black sapphire which makes my eyes really pop.

The Parcel Girlfriend edition - I have recently been looking at ways to cut down on costs and decided that unfortunately BellaBox had to go and instead switched to The Parcel which is a seasonal beauty box. For $20 each season you get a box filled with various items (which only vary in colours across all boxes so everyone gets the exact same). Its great value and this seasons box was filled with mostly full sized products that I know I will use (including my Mum's favourite cleanser by Biore).

Heffron Drive Unplugged The Art of Moving On video - Heffron Drive is up there as one of my current favourite artists, I mean I named my car after them! They are releasing an acoustic album soon and to build up to the launch of it they are putting up some of the songs on YouTube. I love this song already but its amazing in acoustic. I am looking forward to downloading the album when it comes out.

Another thing added to the list.

Today I was looking through some old documents on the family computer to find something and I came across the letter of reference some of my old teachers wrote when I was still in high school (do schools still do that?). It seemed stange at the time and the only reason it was on the computer as I thought it would be a good addition to a job application, I decided to scan through it and came across this:
I couldn't help but wonder what happened to the girl who had spontaneous approach to life during high school. I am not that spontaneous girl now (which you can read about here) and I am wondering if I ever will be. During high school I didn't see myself as having a spontaneous approach to life and I can't help but wonder if I was putting an act on, espicially as during year 12 when the letter was written I was going through a tough patch and was anything but spontaneous. I guess its just another thing in the past that will remain unknown and added to the ever growing list of who I was back then and who I'm not now.

Book Review: How to Catch a Prince

I am so happy to get to review this book! I have mentioned before on here how much I love Rachel Hauck, her books are the type I love to read when I need an escape, they allow me to enter in to modern fairy tales. Since getting my license I have had to cut down on a few luxuries one of which has been buying books, the cost of freedom! One night I was tweeting about how I really wanted to read How to Catch a Prince but I couldn't justify downloading it onto my e-reader and how I was waiting for the moment of weakness when I would download it and have the money. Rachel tweeted me back and despite living all the way in America she offered to send me a copy to read which she also signed. After waiting 3 long weeks it finally arrived and though I really wanted to read right then and there I decided that I would save it for when I needed a pick me up. A week after receiving the copy I finally sat down to read it and just finished it today.

The Royal Wedding series is such a great series in that each book is a standalone novel but they are all interconnected. This means you can pick up any book and start reading rather than worrying about the order.

The blurb reads:

Behind him, beside him, before him, the synchronized cathedral bells began to ring out.
One, two, three . . .
Then she said it first. The words his heart burst to share. “I love you, Stephen..”
She caught her prince once. Can she catch him again?
American heiress Corina Del Rey’s life was devastated by war. Every thing she loved was lost. But after five years of grief, she’s shed her grave clothes and started over in the sunshine along the Florida coast.
But some things are not so easily forgotten. When a secret from her past confronts her face to face, she realizes she must follow her heart. Even if it cost her everything.
Prince Stephen of Brighton Kingdom is a former Royal Air Command lieutenant turned star rugby player, trying to make sense of his life after the devastation of war.
When his brother, King Nathaniel, discovers Stephen’s pre war secret, he must deal with an aspect of his life he longed to forget. But how can he do so without exposing the truth and breaching national security?
Yet, true love has a destiny all it’s own. As the cathedral bells peal through Cathedral City, Corina and Stephen must chose to answer the call of love on their hearts.
Or let it be lost forever?

This book (like the others in the series) will please you're inner royalty and you won't be able to put it down. I am super picky about the characters in books and for me a good book is when by the end of it you can feel like you know the characters and you have a relationship with them. Rachel manages to do this perfectly! There were so many times I wished I could've given Corina a hug and knocked some sense into Stephen. I also loved how Corina was such a strong women despite loosing her twin brother and how she never gives up on getting back her Prince. I will admit that there were times when I wondered if this book would have a happy ending or not but I am pleased to say it does. I did cry during this book and I'm not sure if they tears of sadness or joy but I suspect a bit of both!

One thing that stood out to me was the war aspect and how even after 5 years it still affected Corina and Stephen regardless of him being a prince so deeply. With the 100th anniversary of the ANZACS coming up later this month it was great to be reminded of the sacrifices that soldiers still make to this day as they did in the past. Even though its a known fact that many royals do serve in the army it was interesting to see how this added to the storyline and made it deeper.

This book is a great read and I highly recommend it for anyone who is after a modern fairy tale with a few twists and turns. Once again Rachel has managed to write a magical book that will leave you wanting more!

I couldn't resist sharing this photo of Rikki who has decided he would like to catch a prince as he is hopeless at catching mice (he lets them go).

*I was provided with this book for my own enjoyment by the author (Rachel Hauck) and all opinions are my own. Even if I was to purchase to the book myself I would have stilled reviewed it as I just love The Royal Wedding series so much.

Being spontaneous

I am a total control freak which I have mentioned on this blog multiple times because its a part of my nature (and anxiety). This does me no favours whatsoever when it comes to being spontaneous as my week is at least 99% planned even when I say I have nothing the chances are I have an idea of what I will be doing. My idea of being spontaneous is deciding to watch an episode of Bones at 9.00 at night alone which never ends well as my dreams become a bit too vivid for my liking or deciding to eat cake for breakfast which again isn't the smartest idea.
I get that being a planner is part of my nature but I also want to be spontaneous and get out of my comfort zone. My psych and I were talking about this at my last appointment because one of the things I need to work on is putting myself in situations that I have little control over. We have also decided that one morning or day a week I should have NOTHING planned and just decide to do something during that time when it gets to it. I don't want to go wild or anything but I also want to take risks and chances.
Today when I scrolling through my Facebook feed I saw that one of the pages I followed needed volunteers who were between the ages of 18-25  and without a second thought I decided that I would fill out the application form and give it a go because: 1 it was spontaneous and 2 if I get a volunteer position it would put me out of my comfort zone so it was technically doing 2 things at once. I will find out if I have one of the positions on the 17th of April and if I do I will attend a workshop on a weekend. I am not stressing about it as its all in Gods hands and if I do get a position I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
Being a control freak may be in my nature but that doesn't mean it has to rule my life and besides sometimes taking chances is just what the doctor ordered :)

What I do

I always get stuck when someone asks me what I do, for the past couple of years it has been I am looking for work/unemployed and currently when someone asks me its the following: Unemployed/looking for work, studying to get my Diploma in Business Admin and I am a blogger plus I care for a girl 4 hours a week. I always say that I am unemployed first though, because for so long it has been a part of my identity and even though I am studying (and running a blog), looking for work is a big part of my life and the rest is just in the background.
Today at my psychologist appointment I mentioned that even though I am studying I still feel like I am unemployed which does nothing for my self esteem. So instead when someone asks me what I do I should say that I am studying (via distance) to get my Diploma in Business Admin THEN looking for work, because I am doing everything to get work and honestly I will get the right job at the right time which God has set aside for me. Its just a simple thing to do but it should make the world of difference to my self confidence and esteem.
This has made me think about the importance we put on jobs, if we are unemployed for long periods of time there must be something wrong with us despite if there is nothing more we can do and we are doing everything we can. It drives me crazy when people ask me if I have looked into other job options because it makes me feel like other people are doubting me and I get enough of that from myself. I have looked into other options believe me but nothing has come from them and whenever I seriously think about giving up I get another job interview or a promising job comes up. I am enjoying getting my diploma and this is just confirming to me that admin is for me, yes its hard doing it long distance and its even harder not having set dates to get assignments in but when I am doing the work I am enjoying and I am so close to finishing my first assignment.
At the end of the day it shouldn't matter what you do as long as you are doing what God wants you to do and you are happy.

I have finally updated my blog background, this was something I had been wanting to do for a while but never got round to sitting down and doing it. I finally did it on Good Friday and am extremely happy with the results and I didn't go off at the computer once while doing it!

TV shows you need to watch

With the Easter long weekend just started its a great time to sit down and binge watch something new. I am planning on rewatching the 3 episodes of iZombie and maybe some Open Heart as well while eating chocolate, because that's what I do when I get an email saying I'm not successful in getting shortlisted for the job I wanted (I know God has the right job out there for me but I am over being unemployed especially since having a car isn't cheap). I am also trying to find my next show to binge watch having just finished watching Suits after getting told to watch it by a few friends. These shows are well worth a watch and hopefully you will be just as addicted to them as I am!

  • Finding Carter (MTV) - Imagine if everything you were knew was a lie and that you were kidnapped as a toddler while playing out the front of your house with your twin sister? This follows Carter as she comes to terms with her new life and family, trying to figure out who she is as a person and coming to grips that the women who called herself her mother and she loved was really her kidnapper. The characters are likeable and you will find yourself wanting more. This is a gripping series, season 2 has just started and will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more.
  • Eye Candy (MTV) - This show is Bones meets Pretty Little Liars with a few extra twists added in. Lindy is trying to find her missing sister when she gets convinced to have fun what happens is the opposite. She gets dragged in to help the NYPD Cyber Crime unit in trying to find the Flirtual killer - a killer who is killing off people on the popular app Flirtual (similar to Tinder I am guessing) who lie about their features and is after perfection and is obsessed with Lindy. The episodes can be dark but you really get to know Lindy and her struggles, it also helps you become more social media safety aware. Season 1 has just finished and I am already looking forward to season 2!
  • Open Heart - From the producers of Degrassi: The Next Generation comes a story of Dylan a girl who is trying to find her missing Father while also serving out community service volunteering at the hospital where her Mum is a doctor and her older sister is a resident. Dylan soon realises that things aren't all they seem and that in order to get to find her Dad she will have to do some digging and possibly break the law again. You will notice a few familiar faces from Degrassi and the storyline is not something you would expect from a show aimed at teenagers.
  • iZombie - This show is so different to what's currently around, Liv a promising resident in a hospital gets turned into a Zombie. In order to protect herself and the people she loves she distances herself and finds work in the morgue at the local police department so she can have access to brains (or should that be braaaaiiiins?). One of the side affects of eating brains is that she takes on personality traits of the people whose brain she has eaten and can see their thoughts and past memories in flashbacks. Cue to Liv convincing one of the police officers that she's really a psychic and helping to solve various crimes. This is show keeps getting better with every episode and I can't wait to see what happens next!
  • Saving Hope - I know I mentioned this show before on here but its such a great show! Its based around Alex a resident doctor at Hope Zion hospital on the way to her wedding with her fiancĂ©e Charlie (who's also a doctor). They get into a car accident and Charlie slips into a coma during which he can see the people in between life and death, this continues once Charlie gets out of the coma and goes back to work at Hope Zion. You get to see how the coma affects Charlie and Alex (along with the rest of the hospital) long term over the next 2 seasons (there are currently 3 seasons in total and they are due to start filming the 4th soon!). I am not into medical dramas but for some reason this show has drawn me in.

Hope you all have a great Easter and enjoy being able to eat chocolate for breakfast and not getting judged.

Building up my confidence

Recently I wrote about my battle with low self confidence (you can read it here) and currently I am working to boost it. I have no doubt it will be a very long road to boost it and it won't happen overnight but I have to start somewhere!
  • Wear bright lipstick - This gives me a confidence boost for some reason and when I wear it I feel like I can take on the world. I love physicians formula PH lip gloss as it creates a custom colour to your bodies PH and lasts for 14 hours (not kidding, I have to scrub it off when I wear it).
  • Take the compliments - When someone compliments me I now repeat it to myself and will go back to it if my confidence is lagging. The other day someone told me my parking was improving and yes its not a big compliment but when my confidence has been lagging I have gone back to it.
  • List the things you can do - Its so easy to focus on what I can't do so instead I focus on what I can do. I can make great thoughtful gifts for people, I can bake great caramel slice, I can drive etc. This helps so much and I am in the process of typing them up, laminating them and sticking them on a key ring as a flip book so I can go through the during the day when my confidence is really lacking.
  • Sing along to an upbeat song - I am not the best driver and am also a new driver, like all new drivers I make lots of mistakes and have been getting honked at a bit this shakes me up majorly and I often find it hard to refocus after the incidents. After such incidents I will often sing along to an upbeat which helps my confidence grow.
  • Eat chocolate or something else sweet - My blood sugar is prone to dropping as in my heart will start racing and I will feel light headed which are both signs of anxiety attacks. So sometimes eating something sweet will give me the boost I need. This doesn't work all the time but its always worth a shot.
Sometimes the smallest things can make a big difference when it comes to having low self confidence. Everyone is different, so its all a matter of what works for you and how easy it is to apply it long term. I switch it up a lot depending on the situation and where I am, I make sure to always carry a nut or muesli bar with me for the times I can really feel my blood sugar dropping. I  hope to add to my techniques as I continue to see my psychologist and that the next job I get my self confidence levels will be higher.
